Stove Hood

The vent hood for over the stove that I showed in the last post is done and hung. It will be painted white to match the cabinets.

Fireplace progress

I think it's safe to say that my vision for the fireplace might just push our builder, Jerad, over the edge.  Jerad agrees that it's a cool idea, but he told me he's not even going to take a picture of it when it's done because he never wants to do something like this again! Jamie told Jerad he's actually getting off easy because Jamie is the one that has to live with me and put up with my ideas every day! Ha!

I also had the idea for Jerad to build the vent hood for over the stove.  I found it in the garage and I'm loving how it is turning out. It'll be painted white to match the cabinets. Funny story - Jamie actually left the room when I was telling Jerad about this idea because he couldn't handle any more of my "What about if we did something like this..." questions for Jerad.  I think he thought for sure Jerad was going to kill me.  (And for the record, Jerad was excited about this idea!)

Well, we're getting closer but did get the news that our builder needs an extra week.  This means we are closing on September 19th.  Based on how things were looking Jamie and I both figured that our September 12th date would be pushed back so I'm thrilled that it's only an extra week.

Siding is done & we are just waiting on stone.

Stairs are getting started.

There will be transom windows over the entrance to the dining room and the living room from the front door.

Deck is nearly done.

They finally added the extra cement to the basement patio.

Cabinets Installed!

Kitchen Island...patiently waiting for it's counter top!

Drayden & Logan's Bathroom

Master Bathroom - Jamie's side on the left and mine on the right.

The bar down in the basement.

We are officially 15 days out from closing...who wants to bet that it'll be done then??

My Open Shelves

The other side of the kitchen....

I can't wait to fill these shelves with cookbooks and pretty things from my mom and grandma!

This weekend...

After many delays the siding has finally been started.  White trim still needs to go around all the windows - hopefully that'll all get done this week.

Friday they started installing the kitchen cabinets.

Both Friday and Saturday we celebrated Jamie's birthday...I guess you get two days when you turn the big 4-0!

The Last Month!

As of today we are officially one month out from the day that our builder told us he would absolutely be done by!!
Things will really be changing over the next few weeks and I’ll keep you posted.

Painting started and I'm happy to say that I still love the two colors we picked!  I can't wait to see how they pop out once we get the white trim work added (it should be delivered today)!  Also, the back patio has been poured, but it was supposed to go to the edge of the house and right now it is ending at the edge of the door, so they'll need to come back and finish it off.

Dining Room - there will be wainscoting half way up the wall in white.

I had Logan run around the back of the house and get some pictures of the deck and cement.

When he was done and handing the camera back to me he told me that he took a couple extra pictures while he was back there, because he didn't really know what all I wanted.
Here are the "extras" I ended up with....thanks so much, Logan! :)

Drywall Is D.O.N.E.

It's a miracle!  As of today the drywall is completely done which makes this the fastest thing that has ever happened for this house!  This afternoon I went out and painted a couple of samples on the wall because paint is the next thing I need to turn in to the builder.  I can choose up to 3 colors, but right now I'm trying to decide between the 2 light colors and and the 2 dark colors.  I'm at a loss for what my 3rd color should be, but since it is included I feel like I need to choose something and save myself the work later!

SW Zircon, SW On the Rocks, SW Peppercorn, BM Kendall Charcoal
Before I painted anything my favorite two were the ones in the middle -  "On the Rocks" and "Peppercorn".  I'm still loving Peppercorn, but I like the Zircon as well so I'm torn on which lighter color to use.  Tomorrow I'll go out again to see how they look when dry in case that changes anything.  I'm planning to do a dark color on the upper half of the wall in the dining room, laundry & mud room, possibly the 1/2 bath off the kitchen & the master bedroom.  Everything else will be the lighter color.  Logan wants his room to be blue so I need to figure that out as well.

Craigslist for the win!!

Check out this solid wood dresser I scored for $40 on Craigslist!!
We have a major dresser shortage in our house, so when I saw this come up I immediately contacted the seller and a couple hours later it was in the back of my car!
Now I need to decide where it'll go - I love it so much I might just have to keep it for my room!

I'm trying to decide how I want to finish it.  I'm thinking I might just stain the whole thing, but I love how this dresser shown below is done with the white top.  The two dressers are nearly identical so it is neat to see how it really might look.  Feel free to share your opinions for a finish!!

Getting Ready For Actual Walls!

We finally have a front door!  Obviously it will be changed but it is exciting to see that they are getting closer to having the house completely sealed up!

Insulation is 90% done so tomorrow they should be putting up the drywall!

The double-sided fireplace between the kitchen and living room is in!

The kitchen island construction has started.  You can also see that we have a door to the deck.  The deck has started being built so I'll have pictures of that soon.

Logan's room is the farthest along in the process.

Our shower has been walled off.  It's different than how I had imagined, but I like how they did it!

The pile of faucets for the house I found in the basement.  Can't wait for them to be connected to something!

Happy Sunday!

Quick post for today!
Today the boys and I hit up the pool and the weather was perfect.  Jamie finally got back from Milwaukee around 5pm and after picking him up we enjoyed a delicious dinner made by Anna.

Logan's flip!

Drayden diving

Tomorrow Jamie and I are off to Las Vegas until Sunday!  We leave from Des Moines at 12:45pm.  In the past we've always flown in at night, so while I'll miss not seeing the city lit up as we land, it'll be really nice to get there and still have plenty of time to do things.  Mom and dad are joining us from Thursday - Saturday and we are excited to show them around. Hope they are ready for some serious heat!  Jamie asked me if my dad was going to shave his beard in order to be a little cooler while he's out there - I'm thinking not!

3 years later...

There are big things happening here.  3 years after I started refinishing Logan's dresser I'm finally going to finish it.  Although it won't actually be Logan's dresser at the new house since it is so small that about 3 pairs of jeans fill a drawer, I'm thinking it'll work in the guest bedroom.  So far Drayden and I have just done the primer but tonight we are planning on painting it white. More to come...

Luckily I have a pretty good helper this time around!

Shingles!

What a great sight - all those men working on the house!!  They should have finished the shingles yesterday.  One step closer to having the house sealed up so work can start on the inside!

Run or Dye 5k Race

This morning the boys and I ran the Run or Dye 5k with our friends Charity and Greyson.  We got really lucky with the weather and while it was overcast all morning we only felt about 3 sprinkles.  Drayden and I ran together and Logan ran with Charity and Greyson.  Everyone had a blast and we can't wait to do it again.

After the race there is a party with music where they throw out free t-shirts, sunglasses, and more packets of dye for everyone to throw in the air.  We got in the front row and each got a couple to toss.  They have a countdown and then everyone tosses their dye in the air at the same time.

It was impossible to breathe (or see) in the cloud of dust.
Good thing we were along the edge so Logan and Greyson could come out for air!

Special thanks to our photographer for the morning!!  He did a great job!
