Shingles!

What a great sight - all those men working on the house!!  They should have finished the shingles yesterday.  One step closer to having the house sealed up so work can start on the inside!

Run or Dye 5k Race

This morning the boys and I ran the Run or Dye 5k with our friends Charity and Greyson.  We got really lucky with the weather and while it was overcast all morning we only felt about 3 sprinkles.  Drayden and I ran together and Logan ran with Charity and Greyson.  Everyone had a blast and we can't wait to do it again.

After the race there is a party with music where they throw out free t-shirts, sunglasses, and more packets of dye for everyone to throw in the air.  We got in the front row and each got a couple to toss.  They have a countdown and then everyone tosses their dye in the air at the same time.

It was impossible to breathe (or see) in the cloud of dust.
Good thing we were along the edge so Logan and Greyson could come out for air!

Special thanks to our photographer for the morning!!  He did a great job!

Windows!

Today we drove out to check on the house after not seeing it for a week! Typically we check on it nearly every other day, if not every day, so it was really fun to see how much had been done.  Since they were still working we didn't go in, but plan to go back tomorrow and meet with our builder to go over things so I'll have an update from the inside soon!  Our windows are black and will have white trim around them with gray siding and black shingles.  I can't wait to see it all put together!

These are the windows to the North.  The one on the left and center are in the shower and bathroom and the one on the right is in the spare bedroom.

Our Weekend with Gary & Betty

This weekend my parents came to visit!  My dad had a cattle event nearby on Sunday so they just decided to make a weekend of it, and we packed in as much as we could!  Friday night we met them for dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse.  Logan's favorite food is steak and the rarer it is the better, which means the kind that Grandpa Gary gets is perfect!

Logan eyeing Gary's prime rib during the entire meal.

After scoping it out he finally chose the piece he wanted.
After we ate we went and checked out the house before taking Logan to a birthday party.
Dad looking out the kitchen window.

Our development has a private pond for those living there to use.  It is stocked with fish so of course Gary wanted to check it out.  We saw quite a few around the bank so the boys are anxious to put the fishing poles they got for Christmas to use!

Saturday night Drayden swam at the hotel pool for a while before calling it a night.  The next day the boys had baseball practice so my mom, dad, and I hit up the Cedar Rapids Farmers Market and the Newbo City Market.  We met the boys for lunch then Jamie and Logan headed home while the rest of us checked out the Macbride Raptor Center which is the home to several birds that have been injured or human imprinted and can no longer live in the wild.

It was overcast all day and luckily we only got rained on as we were headed back to the car!  That night we ate at a really good Supper Club and somehow the boys talked their way into spending the night at the hotel with grandma & grandpa!  The next day my dad went to the cattle event and the rest of us checked out some of our favorite houses on the Parade of Homes again for more ideas.  We both ended up getting done at about the same time so we dropped my mom off with my dad and they headed back across the state.  We all had a great time and hopefully the next time they come to visit our house will be done and they'll be staying with us!

A Weekend of Progress

Jamie drove past the house on Saturday and much to our surprise the construction guys were working!  Between what they did on Saturday and today we are getting much closer to having a roof!

Drayden's room upstairs is looking good! To the right you can see the door outline to Logan's future room.

The Start of the Second Floor

Tonight Drayden had a baseball game and after hitting Dairy Queen we headed out to do our daily check on the house.

About 1/3 of the floor joists for the second level are done!

This is the frame for the fireplace that will act as a divider between the kitchen and the living room.
Hopefully they will have even more done for when my mom and dad come to visit this weekend!
